Penstocks for Alkimos Desalination Plant

AWMA is proud to be contributing to the Alkimos Seawater Desalination Plant (ASDP), a significant infrastructure project that will become Western Australia’s third major desalination plant, joining the Perth and Southern Seawater Desalination Plants. The project will play a critical role in strengthening the state's long-term water security and providing a climate-independent source of drinking water for the growing Perth metropolitan region.

As Australia's leading provider of specialised water control infrastructure, AWMA has been engaged to design, manufacture and supply a range of penstocks, stoplogs and associated isolation equipment across the plant's intake and treatment processes. The scope includes over 50 penstocks and a range of stoplog systems to be used for flow control, isolation and maintenance activities throughout the facility.

Designed specifically for the demanding conditions of seawater desalination, AWMA's water control equipment is manufactured from Grade 2507 Super Duplex Stainless Steel, providing exceptional corrosion resistance, structural strength and long-term reliability in marine environments.

The Alkimos project builds on AWMA's extensive experience delivering water control solutions for some of Australia's largest desalination facilities, including the Southern Seawater Desalination Plant (WA), Perth Seawater Desalination Plant (WA), Sydney Desalination Plant (NSW) and Victorian Desalination Plant (VIC). This experience provides valuable insight into the technical, operational and maintenance requirements of large-scale desalination assets.

All equipment is being designed and manufactured at AWMA's purpose-built facility in Victoria, where dedicated engineering, manufacturing and project management teams oversee every stage of delivery. The project is supported by AWMA's ISO-certified quality, environmental and safety management systems.
