Undershot Gates for Moodie Swamp Environmental Project

Behind every successful environmental watering program is water control infrastructure that enables environmental water to be delivered, managed and measured effectively for years to come.

A completed environmental water delivery project on the upper Broken Creek is helping improve the operation of a gravity-fed system supplying Moodie Swamp, a 180-hectare nationally important wetland in northern Victoria.

The Moodie Swamp project included new off-stream control structures to improve flow management to support the efficiency of environmental water deliveries. AWMA supplied manually operated undershot gates manufactured from marine-grade aluminium, providing a robust and reliable solution for long-term water management.

These upgrades have enhanced the efficiency, reliability and capacity of environmental water deliveries, supporting more effective water management and improved environmental outcomes.

Moodie Swamp provides important habitat for threatened species including brolgas, frogs and rare wetland plants, while also supporting a diverse range of waterbirds such as Eastern Great Egrets, Royal and Yellow-billed Spoonbills, ibis, cormorants and grebes.

Delivered through a strong partnership between Goulburn Broken CMA, Goulburn-Murray Water, the Victorian Environmental Water Holder and local landholders, the project demonstrates how targeted water control infrastructure can support the long-term health and resilience of significant wetland ecosystems.
