Flood Barriers feature in ANCR

AWMA’s Concealed Flood Barriers feature in the latest issue of ‘Australian National Construction Major Project Review’.

The location of Ballarat’s new GovHub is prone to overland flooding, during heavy rain events. It was imperative that construction of the building incorporate a self-deploying flood barrier that would protect the multi-level basement car park entrance from flooding.

The barrier was manufactured approximately 8m wide, to be concealed under the entrance to the underground car park. Water from the driveway entrance flows into the strip drain which runs across the front of the barrier. During normal rain events, this water is pumped into the storm water system. However, should the volume of water reach pre-determined levels, an alarm will sound and the flood barrier will automatically rise to prevent the basement car park from flooding.

See the FloodFree Website for the full project details.
