Another step forward for native fish protection in NSW

As part of the Macquarie River Screening Program, installations of modern fish screens on pump stations are continuing across the region.

This collaborative initiative supports irrigators in making their water diversions more sustainable by preventing native fish from being drawn into pumps, a vital measure for protecting river ecosystems while maintaining efficient water delivery.

At this site, the water extracted is essential for sustaining a family-run operation with cotton, wheat, oats, sheep, and cattle, a diversified farm that relies on a clean, reliable water supply to support long-term productivity.
