Murrumbidgee Irrigation engaged AWMA to custom design 32 control gates across eight sites. Inlet and Outlet Structures, Regulators, a Cross Structure and an Offtake were designed, manufactured, installed and interfaced by AWMA into the water authority’s existing SCADA system.
The Barren Box and Bray’s Dam project required innovative water management infrastructure for the reconstruction of water storage facilities within Barren Box and the development of en-route water storage at Bray’s Dam. The project was supported by Water for Rivers and aimed to improve management and efficiency of water at the storage site as well as to secure the water supply to the Wah Wah Irrigation District, whilst achieving a minimum of 20,000ML per annum in water savings for the Snowy River System.
AWMA were contracted to work with water authorities and government bodies to custom-design water control gates that met all specifications of each of the eight control sites. AWMA’s in-house design and drafting team modified proven AWMA gate designs to ensure fast and efficient installation and operational benefits. The project required water control infrastructure for Inlet Structures, Outlet Structures, Regulators, a Cross Structure and an Offtake. AWMA designed a variety of purpose built water control gates based on proven AWMA gate designs including Overshot and Undershot Gates. Thirty two gates in total were manufactured from marine grade aluminium by AWMA within the scheduled timeframe. The gates were then installed by AWMA’s dedicated Install and Electrical Teams. The Cross Structure is operating under an AWMA remote control and monitoring system including Kingfisher RTU controls, interfaced into the water authority’s existing SCADA system for accurate and cost effective operation.
The result is a highly accredited reconstruction of an existing water storage facility to enhance our national water storage and distribution, in an area of great environmental significance.
