AWMA designed, manufactured, installed and commissioned approximately 2,500 water control gates with associated automation, across over 1,000 sites within the Murray Irrigation District in a staged five year program.
This modernisation project was the beginning of numerous programs AWMA are working on with irrigation authorities Australia wide, to meet safety, accountability and efficiency requirements.
These projects involve many risks including wide spread geographical areas, access onto private property, managing a multi-skilled labour force, diverse OH&S exposure, sensitive environmental environments, interruption to irrigation scheduling, perceived accuracy issues and public relations.
AWMA successfully managed all these risks year after year, under changing regulations and the dynamic requirements of end users and stakeholders.
The project involved two years of development work at AWMA’s FlowLab facility to build a world first flow algorithm for the LayFlat overshot gate.
Subsequent to the success of the MIL modernisation program, AWMA have been awarded a similar project for SunWater Queensland involving nearly 400 sites in 2010/11.
