Sliding Flood Gate for the Bundamba Advanced Water Treatment Plant

June 16, 2016 by

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Flood mitigation strategies at the Bundamba Pump Station involved the construction of a 360 degree flood protection barrier.

A concrete barrier was constructed around the facility, with an opening for the driveway. AWMA were engaged to design, manufacture and install an automated sliding flood gate for complete sealing of the access point.

The AWMA Sliding Flood Gate will be operated for complete isolation of the pump station during flood events. Manufactured from marine grade aluminium the gate leaf measures 6m wide x 1.7m high.

The gate’s operating mechanism involves an automated rack and pinion system guided on a stainless steel track for excellent sealing capacity against the floor and side walls.

The Flood Gate remains open for the majority of the time and therefore has a regular inspection and maintenance regime to ensure it remains ‘flood ready’. During flood or emergency events the gate may be operated via secure local or remote access.
