AWMA assisted Civil Team Engineering and State Water Corporation on the design and construction of a new vertical slot fishway at Stevens Weir on the Edward River, NSW.
AWMA designed, manufactured and installed two ULF undershot penstocks for the fishway. The fishway exit #1 has a frame dimension of 7166mm x 1240mm for a waterway opening of 3350mm x 850mm. Fishway exit #2 has a frame dimension of 4850mm x 1240mm for a waterway opening of 2200mm x 850mm.
AWMA penstocks will control the new fish passage, for the Fish Superhighways project.
Fish Superhighways is the largest fish passage restoration program in Australia and seeks to secure fish passage throughout waterways in regional NSW.
Australian fish are dependent on migration to breed as adults, find habitat and seek refuge during droughts. State Water has worked to develop the Fish Superhighways program to reduce some of the barriers to fish passage that exist throughout waterways in regional NSW including structures such as weirs, culverts and floodgates.
