Nearly $8 million will be spent on upgrading around 1500 assets on SunWater’s regional channel network between 2009 and 2011.
Sites across SunWaters regions including Ayr, Mackay, Mareeba, Emerald, Theodore and St George were all investigated to ascertain the custom designed solutions that would achieve the most beneficial outcome per site.
In order to install the proposed safety measures, there is a requirement to drain some channels for minimal periods of time. AWMA have the experience and capacity to ensure all installations take place within the specified time schedules to minimise interruption to customer supply levels.
Principle Engineer and Contract Superintendant Graham Kelly said “The value AWMA brings to this contract includes their extensive experience in retro-fitting gates in similar systems within Australia, their range of standard and non-standard gate designs, their in-field experience and their flexibility to resolve unforeseen difficulties.”
Project Engineer for the SunWater Intersafe Project, Steven Chau stated “SunWater is very pleased with the progress and results of the Intersafe Project so far. AWMA have demonstrated exceptional project management capabilities in meeting the relatively short periods of scheduled shutdowns for installations and have delivered quality workmanship on the channel control gates, walkways and handrails. All feedback received from the operators has been positive.”
The project ran on time with all works now finalised.
AWMA has successfully delivered many modernisation programs to improve water accountability with enhanced operational efficiencies and OH&S benefits within the irrigation industry.
Murray Irrigation Limited’s modernisation program involved AWMA replacing nearly 2,500 water control structures with all associated actuation systems, operational equipment, access walkways and solar power. The works were carried out at approximately 1,000 sites across a 750,000 ha area of NSW, over a five year staged program. Similar works include projects carried out for Goulburn-Murray Water and Murrumbidgee Irrigation, over the past 10 years.
A renewed nationwide focus on the modernisation of irrigation delivery infrastructure has led to further investment and planning opportunities across all states. AWMA are available for on-site inspections and investigations into sustainable options for:
- Modernisation
- Asset Renewal
- OH&S Risk Reduction
- System Rationalisation or Reconfiguration and
- Improved Water Accountability
AWMA’s turn-key capacity allows clients to benefit from a single point of contact, to plan, design, draft, manage, manufacture, supply, install and commission their project from single sites, to thousands of structures over staged programs.
